Chief Minister Atishi relocated to bungalow number 6 on Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines, North Delhi, on Monday, shortly after her predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal, vacated the premises and moved to a new residence in Lutyens’ Delhi, according to officials.
Following the chief minister’s move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asserted that the bungalow has not yet been officially transferred to the public works department for reallocation.
The Chief Minister’s office and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party did not provide an immediate response to the BJP’s claims.
On the afternoon of her relocation, the chief minister held an introductory meeting with the staff at her new residence.
Prior to her arrival, her personal belongings were transported to the new bungalow using a small goods carrier.
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, shared a purported letter from the Public Works Department (PWD) dated October 6, alleging that Kejriwal had not genuinely vacated his bungalow, as many of his possessions reportedly remain in the ‘Sheesh Mahal.’
Gupta stated that Kejriwal continues to hold possession of the property, including the keys.
The BJP has referred to the bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road as ‘Sheesh Mahal,’ launching a campaign regarding alleged irregularities in its construction and the expenses incurred for luxurious interiors and furnishings.
A letter from the PWD addressed to the special secretary of the Chief Minister’s office indicated, “It has come to your attention that the keys to the house at 6 Flag Staff Road, which were handed over to the PWD, were subsequently reclaimed and have yet to be returned to the PWD to finalize the handover process.”
Previously, Atishi was assigned the AB-17 bungalow on Mathura Road after her appointment as a minister in the Kejriwal administration last year.
Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), resigned as chief minister in September and vacated the Flagstaff Road bungalow last Friday.
He has since moved to 5 Ferozeshah Road, located near Mandi House, which has been allocated to AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal.
