Renowned composer A.R. Rahman announced on Wednesday that he will be composing the music for the forthcoming series “Gandhi,” which is directed by Hansal Mehta.
The acclaimed artist, celebrated for his contributions to films such as “Roja,” “Bombay,” “Taal,” “Lagaan,” and “Slumdog Millionaire,” shared this news in honor of Gandhi’s 155th birth anniversary.
“On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, I reflect on the Mahatma and am excited to reveal this remarkable collaboration! @ApplauseSocial @nairsameer @mehtahansal @SegalDeepak @sidkhaitan @pratikg80 @prasoon_garg @PriyaJhavar @devnidhib #KishoreAthwal #Gandhi,” Rahman stated in a post on X.
Pratik Gandhi, known for his roles in “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story” and “Madgaon Express,” will portray the titular character in “Gandhi.”
Produced by Applause Entertainment, the series draws inspiration from the works of historian and author Ramachandra Guha, specifically “Gandhi before India” and “Gandhi: The Years that Changed the World.”
Rahman expressed his honor in composing the music for “Gandhi.”
“Observing Gandhiji’s early life is enlightening—his pursuits of truth and various experiences illustrate the development of his character. I am profoundly honored to be scoring the music for this narrative, in partnership with Applause Entertainment and under the insightful direction of Hansal Mehta,” the composer remarked in a statement.
Mehta expressed that having Rahman on board is a significant achievement for the project.
“His music possesses a unique capacity to enhance storytelling, and for a project of this magnitude and importance, we could not envision anyone more suitable to highlight the emotional and spiritual intricacies of Gandhi’s life,” the director noted.
“Gandhi is more than just a series; it represents a global narrative celebrating the resilience of the human spirit. A.R. Rahman’s music will add a profound dimension to this iconic tale, ensuring it resonates with audiences worldwide. With Rahman’s score, I am confident we are creating something exceptional—a series that both entertains and inspires,” added Sameer Nair, managing director of Applause.
