Why has Prime Minister Narendra Modi suddenly become the messenger of peace ?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as a vital mediator in the Russia-Ukraine peace talks due to his strong diplomatic skills and propensity for fostering constructive dialogue among conflicting parties. His successful past efforts in brokering peace agreements, such as the India-Pakistan ceasefire in Kashmir in 2021, demonstrate his ability to navigate complex geopolitical disputes and find common ground. Modi’s neutrality and credibility on the world stage make him a reliable facilitator for negotiations, capable of bridging the gap between Russia and Ukraine to achieve a peaceful resolution. With his track record of conflict resolution and commitment to promoting global stability, Modi’s involvement in the peace talks is crucial for fostering trust and facilitating productive discussions between the warring nations.
Did it happen in one day? So the answer is yes, but it did not happen all of a sudden. For this, the trio of Prime Minister Modi, External Affairs Minister Sivasankar, NSA Ajit Doval and the coordination of the PMO, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Defence, foreign policy and diplomacy have been implemented with new ideas for years. To understand this, we need to look at Modis recent visit to Russia and Ukraine, rival countries that have been on the brink of war for nearly two and a half years. Modi’s visit to Russia after five years may have been part of the regular India-Russia summit, but Ukraine was witnessing the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to its soil for 45 years from the time of its creation.
When Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Moscow after five years, President Putin welcomed him with open arms and heart. It is mandatory to follow international protocol, but this incident of Putin hugging Modi in Russia has made it the most discussed topic in the world. It is not in the protocol for Putin himself to drive the golf court and show the stables to his friend Modi. This is the new avatar of Russia-India friendship in the Modi-Putin era. As much as this meeting was important in preventing Russia’s inclination towards China in the middle, it also showed a serious effort to prepare Russia for negotiations in an appropriate atmosphere with respect to the peace table with Ukraine. The eyes of the entire world were fixed on Modi’s visit and his statement “This is not the time for war,” Putin told reporters in Moscow. While reflecting the seriousness of their peace efforts, the oil and arms purchase agreements without the US fearing Europe appeared to further strengthen the India-Russia friendship.
Ukrainian President Zelensky’s statement that Modi hugged Putin during the war did not go down well A closer look at this sentence reveals why Zelensky seemed so disappointed with Prime Minister Modi. Because in this desperation, they saw Narendra Modi as the man or India as the power that could help stop the Russia-Ukraine war, and at that time they were probably thinking that if Modi goes to Russia, what will happen to Ukraine. It is a natural process, but no one understood that India’s diplomacy, foreign policy, economic policy, defence policy is going to write a history.
After returning to India, Modi’s visit to Ukraine began by taking America, Europe into confidence. In a short stay of 7 hours, President Zelensky was as emotional as he was tense when he hugged Modi. During the meeting with Modi, along with the tension on his face, there was also a feeling of silent pleading like the support of drowning.
Modi has managed to convince Ukraine that India is not for war, it is for world peace.
It can only be called the success of Team Modi that the role that the United Nations should play and that has proved to be a complete failure, for that work, all the countries of the world are looking at India with more hope. Modi who was denied a US visa as chief minister is now indispensable for the US as well.
Putin’s statement today that he is ready for talks with Ukraine is welcome In this, India, China, Brazil are considered suitable for mediation. Not only this visit, but from the first term, a new direction comes out with a new thinking to establish or improve relations with such countries of the world where no Prime Minister of India has gone for many years or has ever gone. A deeper analysis shows that apart from being an efficient administrator, India also has shrewd successful businessmen. The growing economy and self-sufficient military power also seem to be the result or effect of this diplomacy. However, the opposition is not satisfied and agreeable to their efforts It could also be a political compulsion. Never before in the history of independent India has a Prime Minister been so active.
